Thank you for choosing a Nexio device. The nexMEM is manufactured by NEXIO Sarl and is intended to provide a simple data connection between supported ophthalmic instruments and acquisition systems.
This IFU describes the safe handling, installation, RT-6100 configuration, routine operation, maintenance, regulatory information, and disposal of the Nexio nexMEM for NIDEK RT-6100.
For this application, the user workflow is:
No network configuration is required on the acquisition PC.
WARNING!
Read this IFU before installing or using the product. Failure to follow the instructions and safety notes may result in injury, product damage, data transfer errors, or loss of warranty coverage.
NOTE!
The RT-6100 screenshots in this document may appear in another language depending on the device configuration. Use the field positions and values as the reference.
Residual risks remain even when the nexMEM is used as intended. Hazards may occur if the product is installed, connected, cleaned, or used outside the limits described in this IFU.

The nexMEM itself is not a medical device. It is connected to ophthalmic devices only to convert, route, and exchange data.
The Nexio nexMEM is intended to transfer refraction data from and to a NIDEK RT-6100 using acquisition software configured for NIDEK RT-5100 communication.
For this RT-6100 application, the nexMEM supports:
Typical use is the connection of a NIDEK RT-6100 to acquisition software that expects NIDEK RT-5100 serial communication. The nexMEM allows the RT-6100 to be integrated into an existing RT-5100-compatible workflow without requiring PC-side network configuration.
The nexMEM is supplied as a complete converter unit with enclosure, status indicators, Ethernet connectivity, USB-C power input, and RS-232 connectivity.

The power supply may be supplied separately. Use a certified 5 V / 3 A USB-C adapter provided by your distributor or local supplier.

NOTE!
After transport or storage, allow the unit to reach room temperature before powering it on. This reduces the risk of condensation.
Installation and initial configuration must be performed by a Nexio trained technician or an authorized distributor. End users must not open or modify the unit.
NIDEK RT-5100 or RT5100.2400 baud, 7 data bits, even parity, 2 stop bits.No other PC-side network configuration is required.
NOTE!
Use shielded RS-232 cables where possible. If EMC issues are observed on long cables, contact Nexio Sarl or the authorized distributor.
Connect the USB-C power adapter. The nexMEM starts automatically. No additional action is required for normal operation after the RT-6100 and acquisition software have been configured.
Disconnect the USB-C power connector to remove power completely.
NOTE!
Use only an external power supply compliant with IEC/EN 62368-1, rated at least 5 V / 3 A, and certified for the region of use.
NOTE!
Always make sure the power connector remains easily accessible for disconnection.
Configure the RT-6100 exactly as shown below.
Display the RT-6100 menu screen, then press the side menu button.

When the side menu is displayed, press Settings.

In the settings menu, press Parameters.

Open the network settings screen, then select Other.

On the CB LAN network screen, use these values:

Execution.On the PC acquisition software:
NIDEK RT-5100 or RT5100.No other PC-side network configuration is required.
During normal operation:
If no result is received, check the LAN cable, the RS-232 null modem cable, the selected PC serial port, and the RT-6100 connection tests.
The nexMEM emulates a NIDEK RT-5100 serial interface. The communication profile and XML output metadata are configured in the same file on the nexMEM Samba share. No SSH or technician login is required.
Two RT-5100 RS-232 profiles are supported:

The factory default is type1. Use this profile unless the acquisition software is specifically configured for RT-5100 Type 2. The serial settings in the acquisition software must always match the selected nexMEM profile.
From the acquisition PC or service PC, open the nexMEM Samba share:

Open the CONFIG folder.
Open the serial-profile.txt file with a plain-text editor.
Edit only the values after the = signs. Lines beginning with # are comments and may be left unchanged.
Save the file as plain text with the same file name.

Legacy files containing only type1 or type2 remain supported. The key/value format above is recommended for all new installations.
If a value is invalid, nexMEM records a warning and uses the safe default or configured fallback for that setting. Unknown setting names are ignored and recorded as warnings.
rktModelName sets the value of <ModelName> in ARK/RKT output files. lmModelName sets the value independently in LM output files. Both values default to nexMem and may contain any non-empty text required by the receiving software.

The two XML patient fields have different sources and must not be confused:

The factory default is persistent. The persistent and daily state is stored in DATA\CONFIG\patient-counter.json.
NOTE!
Do not edit or deletepatient-counter.jsonduring normal operation. Deleting it resets a persistent or daily counter topatientCounterStarton the next measurement.
Changing patientCounterStart does not overwrite an existing persistent counter. The new start value is used when no counter state exists or when the selected mode requires a reset.
xmlHistoryMode = overwrite keeps the historical nexMEM behaviour. Before writing a new ARK/RKT XML file, nexMEM removes the previous .xml files from RKT\TXT. Before writing a new LM XML file, it removes the previous .xml files from LM\TXT. Normally, one current RKT XML and one current LM XML remain.
xmlHistoryMode = keep preserves the previous XML files and adds each new result with its timestamped file name. If two results receive the same base file name, nexMEM adds a numeric suffix instead of overwriting the first file.
NOTE!
XML history is retained only until the nexMEM service starts again. At every service start, the production configuration empties the completeRT\TXT,RKT\TXT, andLM\TXTdirectories. This startup protection is not controlled byserial-profile.txtand prevents long-term storage growth.
The RT-5100 header provides the measurement date, which nexMEM writes to the XML output. The RT-5100 communication frame does not provide the measurement time.
nexMEM uses its local time only when its local date matches the measurement date received from the RT-5100. If the dates do not match, or if no valid measurement date is received, the XML time is written as 00:00:00. This avoids recording a misleading time after a power interruption when no reliable time source is available.
Set timeZone to an IANA geographical name such as Europe/Zurich, Europe/Paris, or America/Montreal. Do not use a fixed offset such as UTC+1, because it cannot follow daylight saving time. The DS3231 RTC and the Linux system clock remain in UTC. The selected zone only controls conversion to local time. If the setting is absent, the existing Linux time zone is retained.
The following canonical identifiers come from zone1970.tab in the nexMEM v1.2.2 image (tzdata 2026a). UTC offset (STD) is the standard-time offset; when a zone observes daylight saving time, Linux applies the seasonal offset automatically. The list installed on the box is authoritative. TimeAPI provides a searchable reference including historical aliases, while IANA maintains the time zone database and daylight-saving rules.

Savingserial-profile.txtrestarts the nexMEM service. Communication is interrupted for a few seconds, andpatientCounterMode = bootrestarts its counter.
RS-232 debug mode is reserved for trained service personnel. It is not part of routine end-user operation.
Service can enter debug mode with NXDBG ENTER. While debug mode is active, normal RT-5100 data transfer is suspended automatically. Use NXDBG EXIT to return to normal operation, or NXDBG RESTORE to restore the active RS-232 profile. Any baud rate selected during debug is temporary and is not saved as the Type 1 or Type 2 profile.
If serial access is not available, service can reset the fallback Samba file DATA\CONFIG\debug-mode.txt to normal.

For disinfection, use wipes or solutions compatible with electronic equipment enclosures, for example isopropyl alcohol up to 70%. Follow the disinfectant manufacturer's instructions.
